IMDA Graduate Admissions
General admission requirements are those of the Graduate School (with exception of GRE). In addition, applicants will submit a portfolio of work, resume, an artist’s statement and three letters of recommendation. The portfolio will be sent directly to the Department of Visual Arts. Deadline for submitting all application materials is February 1. It is recommended that applicants visit the department during the application process. Students with minor inadequacies in their preparation may fulfill necessary prerequisites concurrently during participation in the program.
Application Deadline

IMDA Application Procedure
An applicant's portfolio materials should be sent to the Department of Visual Arts, while all printed materials are sent to Graduate School Offices.

Materials can also be dropped off and picked up at the Visual Arts Office, Weekdays 9am - 4pm.
1) Portfolio of work
The department prefers to review slides, DV tape, DVD, VHS videotapes, or CD's. DO NOT send original works. An explanation of the work should accompany the portfolio. Contact the department prior to sending work in other formats. Slides should be clearly marked. Do not exceed 20 slides. Video tapes should be cued to beginning point. An excerpt should be selected for works longer than 20 minutes.
2)Return shipping instructions
Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope (SASE) with portfolio. Portfolios can also be picked up directly from the Visual Arts Office.

A short statement explaining your background, experience, goals and intent for applying to the IMDA graduate program. This is the same as the statement the Graduate School requires for their application. You only need to submit one copy of your artist statement.
5) Three letters of recommendation
6) Requests for departmental research or teaching assistantships
Describe your strengths and interests in research or technical areas in a cover letter accompanying your application.
Graduate Record Exams (GREs) are not required for admission to the IMDA Program.

All application materials must be postmarked by February 1 for fall admission. Acceptance announcements and assistantship awards will be made in March. Portfolios with SASE will be returned at that time.
