Rolando Vargas
2011

rvargas1@umbc.edu

Rolando Vargas started using video as a means for registering his installations. When Rolando was a fine arts student, his first videos were documents of his previous works. Rolando then realized that the mix between art and documentary was something he needed to explore. Rolando never cared about the relationship between television and video, or the narrative forms of television. He was focused on form. He is interested in the way form functions in time and space, and the direct correlations video has to photography and lighting; for Rolando, video is similar to a collage, you take materials from one context to another and create something new. Because of all this, Vargas has worked with documentary films, video art, installations and sceneography, trying to find a balance between a work as a document, and as a piece of art. Rolando is an Internationally Exhibited Artist and a Fulbright Scholar.

Rolando's exhibitions and awards include
