Assistant Professor Fred Worden is one of two filmmakers to be featured with profiles at the 56th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, April 29 - May 4th in Oberhausen, Germany. The festival will present a two - program retrospective of Worden's films, curated by film critic Olaf Muller, featuring fourteen films by Worden made between 1972 and 2009. Worden will also serve as a member of the international jury for the films in competition at this year's festival.

Fred Worden, one of the US avant-garde's chief masters of irony, has made over two dozen films since the early 1970s, first on 16mm, and then starting in 2004 on DV. His work centres on experimenting with the sluggishness of human perception: in works like Throbs (1972) and When Worlds Collude (2008) he seeks the poetry of pure flow - there's something comforting in the fact that one ultimately does manage to find meaning in Worden's radical minimalism.
