Chad Eby Visiting Artist
IMDA Alum Receives Grant for 'formLab'
Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 // 4 - 7 PM
ITE 110

Visiting artist Chad Eby will give a presentation on his current research initiatives. Chad is an IMDA alum and he is an assistant professor of art at Florida State University; he teaches in the areas of new media, sound, digital 3D, and design. Chad and an inter-disciplinary team at FSU have recently received funding for their stat-of-the art formLab

Artists, designers and scientists at the formLab will have access to 3D input and output devices providing a complete atoms-to-bits, bits-to-atoms tool set.
The 3D printer is the centerpiece of the formLab. Molecular biologists will be able "print" computer models of complex molecules as full color physical objects that will yield a more complete understanding of their form and structure. Artists and designers will use the tools to construct and investigate sculptural forms that would be difficult or impossible to realize without rapid prototyping technology.

Afterwards, there will be an IMDA Alumni Reception from 5-7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Meet other IMDA students who continue to live and work in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area.
