George Mason University - Fairfax Campus

Cathy Cook's film IMMORTAL CUPBOARD:In Search of Lorine Niedecker will be shown during the Fall For The Book Festival at George Mason University (Sept. 21 - 26, 2009) as part of the fest's POETRY GOES TO THE MOVIES.

Director Cathy Cook offers an artistic interpretation of the life and writings of poet and experimental writer Lorine Niedecker (1903-1970), who chose what many might see as a lonely path, living for years in the solitude of rural Wisconsin, but whose poetry has prompted many literary critics to describe her as the 20th century's Emily Dickinson. IMMORTAL CUPBOARD:In Search of Lorine Niedecker combines original live-action footage, animation, archival images, and Niedecker's only audio interview to unfurl the poet's psychological and physical landscape. A Q&A with the filmmaker follows the screening. Film runtime aprx. 73 mins.
