Jeanne Dunning's photographic and video work explores ambivalent and contradictory relationships with our physicality reality. Using a mixture of abstraction, black humor, and surrealism, her work turns the tables on our assumptions and conventions, making the familiar unfamiliar, the comfortable uncomfortable, and the simple complicated. Her work has been extensively exhibited both nationally and internationally since the mid 1980s. It has been included in the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennale, and the Sydney Bienniale. She has had one person shows at The Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C., The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Magazin 4 Voralberger Kunstverien in Bregenz, Austria, and the Konstmuseet in Malmö, Sweden. A show of her work will open at the Berkeley Art Museum in 2006.
